HARI CHANDANA, IAS
A TRAILBLAZER IN PUBLIC SERVICE & INNOVATION

Hyderabad, May 2025
With an unwavering focus on inclusive development and community-driven governance, Hari Chandana, an IAS officer from the Telangana cadre, continues to redefine what it means to serve in public office. From grassroots transformation to global recognition, her journey reflects the promise of a new-generation bureaucracy that is efficient, empathetic, and future-ready.
An alumna of the London School of Economics, Hari Chandana entered the civil services in 2010 and has since held several key positions. Whether as Zonal Commissioner of GHMC, District Collector of Narayanpet and Nalgonda, or in her current role as Special Secretary in the R&B Department and Project Director of the Regional Ring Road (RRR), her work consistently stands out for its vision and execution.
Among her most impactful contributions is the creation of India's first Pet Park, a concept that blends urban planning with community wellbeing. Her initiative to install "Loo Cafés" self-sustaining public toilets has not only improved sanitation but also created local employment. From the Durgam Cheruvu cable-stayed bridge to lake rejuvenation projects, her infrastructure efforts have significantly enhanced Hyderabad's urban landscape.
During the COVID-19 lockdown, she mobilized local self-help groups (SHGs) to meet global demands for masks and sanitizers, turning a crisis into an opportunity for rural women. Programs like "Aarunya" have connected rural producers with metropolitan markets, empowering women through technology and market access.
Recognized by national and international organizations, her accolades include the Government of India's National Tourism Award, the British Council's Social Impact Award, and the Best District Magistrate Award by the Indian Express jury led by former Chief Justice R.M. Lodha.
More recently, Hari Chandana played a key role in organizing Telangana's presence at the Miss World 2025 event, a global platform where she showcased the state's cultural and developmental strengths.
As Telangana moves forward on its development journey, officers like Hari Chandana exemplify the leadership needed for sustainable progress rooted in values, powered by innovation, and driven by a deep sense of public duty.
