Empowering Indian Voices: The Journey of Anurag Behera and the Rise of Srujanee

In a world increasingly connected through the internet, the voices that dominate online spaces often belong to a select few global languages. But what about the millions of Indians whose thoughts, stories, and knowledge flourish in their mother tongues? For Anurag Behera, this was more than a missed opportunity—it was a personal mission.

Anurag, Co-Founder of Srujanee, a multilingual Indian language content platform, is at the forefront of an ambitious journey to make the internet a truly inclusive space for Indian language speakers. Launched in February 2023, Srujanee is more than a blogging platform—it’s a movement to increase the digital footprint of Indian languages, foster cultural pride, and make quality native-language content widely accessible.

The Spark That Lit the Flame

The idea for Srujanee was born not in a boardroom, but through real-world experiences and a striking moment of insight. After completing his B.Tech in Electronics and Telecommunication from VSSUT, Burla, Anurag worked for four years in the automobile industry, contributing to the futuristic world of self-driving cars. But something was missing—a sense of deeper purpose.

That purpose revealed itself during a volunteer teaching session in Cuttack, Odisha. Anurag had asked his students to look up information about the Jagannath Temple using Google. A young boy returned the next day, visibly disheartened, and said, “Sir, to learn about my Jagannath, do I have to use a foreign language?” While English content was abundant, quality material in Odia—the native language—was sparse and poorly written.

This eye-opening moment, coupled with Anurag’s own experience of struggling to find valuable content in Odia about Jagannath rituals, ignited a mission: to empower Indians to create and access high-quality content in their own languages.

Srujanee: A Platform Rooted in Identity

In February 2023, Anurag, along with co-founder Biswajit Das, launched Srujanee (www.srujanee.in). The name itself evokes creativity and expression. The platform is a tech-enabled space where users can blog in Indian languages like Hindi, Odia, Telugu, Bengali, Tamil, Kannada, and uniquely, Sanskrit—making Srujanee the first in the country to support content creation in this classical language.

What sets Srujanee apart is its unique combination of linguistic support and digital discoverability. Blogs posted on Srujanee are automatically search engine optimized, meaning they show up in Google and Bing results without any extra effort from the writer. This makes native-language content more visible and accessible than ever before.

To ease content creation, the platform comes with innovative features:

  • Speech-to-Text for hands-free writing

  • India’s first spell-checker for Indian languages on the web

  • Inbuilt Phonetic and INSCRIPT keyboards for seamless typing

  • AI-generated audio versions of blogs for inclusive consumption

These powerful tools are enabled by Reverie Language Technologies, ensuring a smooth and multilingual digital writing experience tailored for Indian users.

A Growing Community of Native Language Creators

Since its launch, Srujanee has seen remarkable growth. With 1 lakh+ monthly active readers and over 1500 bloggers contributing more than 1700 blogs every month, the platform has become a vibrant hub for authentic Indian voices. From cultural heritage to modern thoughts, users are creating meaningful content in languages that resonate with their identity.

The Srujanee Android app has further expanded its reach, bringing writers and readers closer in an intuitive mobile interface. You can download it here on the https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.reverie.srujanee .

The platform also allows writers to compile their blogs into books, in collaboration with publishing partners, thus extending the impact of their work beyond the digital realm.

Bridging the Content Divide

India accounts for 18% of the global population, yet Indian language content constitutes only 0.1% of what’s available on the internet. This massive gap not only sidelines the majority of Indian users from accessing relatable content but also erodes the potential for native language digital literacy.

Srujanee is on a mission to change this by empowering creators to take pride in their languages and contribute to the digital ecosystem. Whether it’s a homemaker blogging in Hindi, a teacher writing cultural essays in Odia, or a student experimenting with Sanskrit poems, the platform gives voice to every Indian.

Looking Ahead

Srujanee is more than a tech product—it’s a socio-cultural initiative. As the platform continues to scale, Anurag and his team are exploring partnerships, expanding linguistic capabilities, and deepening their reach in rural and semi-urban India.

“We don’t just want people to write. We want them to be heard, to be discovered, and to contribute to a more inclusive internet where language is not a barrier but a bridge,” says Anurag.
